Hi! I’m Jade!

I am an Editor and Story Coach who is fiercely in love with the magic of language, words & story and devoted to helping writers forge fantastic fiction.

Writing your story – the one that’s been burning in your mind and your heart until it spilled into pages – is a unique and challenging journey. Publishing your story is an entirely new and even more formidable endeavour. Editing – my true passion – is the bridge between these points. There is nothing I enjoy more than helping writers see the power and potential in their story, and helping them refine messy first drafts into powerful stories with lasting emotional resonance.

I graduated with a double degree: BA in English Literature with a specialty in Speculative Fiction & BSc in Environmental Sciences from Brock University. Building on this foundation, I also earned my postgraduate diploma at Centennial College in Book & Magazine Publishing and completed Editorial Arts Academy’s Developmental Editing for Fiction course.

I’ve been actively working as a freelance editor for over 10 years, and worked with manuscripts at every level of the editing process. As a lifelong self-learner (Ennegram Type 5!) and proud neurodivergent, I am continually updating and adapting my methods and resources to reflect current publishing best practices to provide the best guidance to my clients.

Some Fun Facts About Me:

  • I have a very high reading & reading comprehension speed, scoring between 650-900 wpm on most tests (with 100% comprehension) and am nearly always reading multiple books simultaneously. I LOVE complex plots and enjoy books with multiple points of view.

  • I have practical real-life experience across a broad and diverse range of random hobbies that often cross over with cool ‘research’ aspects of fantasy writing including: rock climbing, horseback riding, animal handling, archery, kayaking, hiking & wilderness survival, and I bring this sensory knowledge with me holistically to inform the guidance I offer my clients.

  • I have an extremely analytical mind and a hyperfixation on editing. I’ve spent most of my life studying the elements of story and narrative form, both academically and practically, and how it impacts and inspires reader experience. I love exercises these skills and helping writers deliver wonder to readers through the magic of words.
  • Being neurodivergent is a great asset when working with neurodivergent clients! I am happy to discuss any client questions or concerns and strive to provide services that are inclusive, accessible and valuable to every writer.

When I’m not reading, writing, or editing, I keep up with an inordinate number of podcasts, parent four furry family members and contribute regularly to Weeknight Writers community events.
